Through Santa Clara and Santa Cruz Counties

By Conrad J. Boisvert

Explore the South Bay by Bicycle!

Although the South Bay is better known for its high-tech image, once you head out into the surrounding countryside, you will find a cyclist's paradise. From San Jose south to Gilroy, picturesque rides take you through ranchlands around Morgan Hill, dense redwood forests in the Santa Cruz mountains, and the coastal wetlands of the Elkhorn Slough. Heading south along the Pacific coast brings you to the famous beaches and seaside resorts of Santa Cruz and Capitola.

South Bay Bike Trails includes 31separate rides, with distances ranging from 5 to 50 miles, and with terrain ranging from flat to serious climbs of 2,500 feet or more. Mountain biking is covered as well, with 14 of the 33 ride variations on dirt or fire roads throughout the many parks of the South Bay. Detailed maps, elevation profiles, and photos allow you to select the ride of your choice with no unpleasant surprises.
