45 Mountain Bike Rides
Throughout the San Francisco Bay Area

By Conrad J. Boisvert
(Author of San Francisco Peninsula Bike Trails)

Hit the Trails of the Bay Area!

Mountain biking was first developed in Marin County, and it is understandable why some of the most exciting and scenic off-road biking is in the San Francisco Bay Area. From Santa Rosa south to Gilroy, you can ride along the spectacular ridges of Mt. Tamalpais, view the Golden Gate Bridge from the Marin Headlands, or challenge yourself on the hills of Mt. Diablo. Ride along fog-shrouded coastal redwood forests or the rugged chaparral of the inland mountains. The Bay Area offers a wealth of hidden trails, all within easy access of major cities.

Bay Area Mountain Bike Trails previews 45 individual mountain bike rides, ranging from 5 to 33 miles in length, throughout the Bay Area. Detailed maps and carefully prepared ride directions make it easy to follow the route for each ride. Elevation profiles show you where the hills are and how big they are.
